Treisha earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication at St. Joseph’s College in New York and her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Long Island University.
Before starting the private practice, she worked in public school setting in Washington and Arizona. As a member of the special education team, she consulted with parents, teachers and staff about creative ways to support the student's speech-language development in their classrooms.
Treisha created the workshop after seeing a need in the community for holistic speech and language services for school-aged children. She noticed two things:
1. Focusing on the growth mindset of a student and supporting their social-emotional needs helped them build the resiliency to persevere through challenging tasks academically and socially.
2. Engaging and interactive therapy fostered the creativity and curiosity necessary for strengthening and broadening memory networks for learning.
The mission of Illuminate Family Workshop is to serve the needs of the community with expertise, compassion and empathy by delivering engaging evidenced-based therapy and collaborating with families. It is our goal to support others in communicating confidently, effectively and authentically.
Treisha Wan, M.A. CCC-SLP (she/her)
Ms. Wan works extremely hard to get to know our students and builds rapport quickly so that students look forward to their speech/ language sessions. Ms. Wan’s students demonstrated growth with their IEP goals, even during the crazy year that was the 2020-2021 school year where we were back and forth between being in-person and virtual. Throughout all the changes that we faced last year, Ms. Wan approached it all with a positive attitude. Ms. Wan is also a firm believer in open lines of communication, so everyone on a student’s team is on the same page when it comes to a student’s IEP and how their needs can best be met not only during their resource and related service provider sessions, but also during their general education class time.
C.B., Special Education Teacher
In my 21 years as a speech-language pathologist Treisha stands out among other professionals I have worked alongside. She consistently demonstrated a high degree of integrity, responsibility, ambition, and passion for our field. Among staff and families she was always very professional and approachable which made her a valuable part of the intervention team. She was efficient and resourceful in her management of evaluation, planning, treatment, and documentation and continually found time to share fresh and innovative resources. Our students and staff responded exceptionally well to her techniques as she was insightful in regard to adapting to their needs. She challenged them while always allowing them to feel safe and successful, which in turn facilitated and enriched learning and communication. Treisha is compassionate, talented, and enthusiastic. I am honored to give my full endorsement.
M.B., Speech Language Pathologist
I worked with Treisha during her time in Tahoma School District in Washington. My role at that time was as an AAC (augmentative/alternative communication) specialist and consultant for the district. I can confidently say that out of all the speech language pathologists that I worked with in this role, Treisha stood out as an exemplary co-worker, teammate, and practitioner. She exemplifies characteristics of an ideal SLP: flexible, curious, respectful and motivated in her treatment of clients and collaborators alike. She was able to quickly and enthusiastically integrate suggestions and ideas into her practice and generalize them across students. She worked well with even the most complex communicators. Her rapport with the students, teachers and other staff was excellent – she is always positive and open minded. Her communication with me was always timely and accurate. I was able to observe her managing a diverse and large caseload with organizational prowess and clinical excellence.
